I am Rachel Thyberg, a licensed mental health professional and Registered Play Therapist who works with children and adolescents, as well as their caregivers.
My goal is to help your child to feel safe, to know that they are heard and understood, and to live their best life using the language of play. The use of play therapy will allow your child to communicate in a safe and comfortable way that allows me as the therapist to better understand the challenges that they are facing and to help them to develop skills for navigating those challenges.
If you are a parent of a teenager, you might be thinking that your teen is too old for play therapy and that there’s no way your teen is going to want to play in therapy. My play therapy techniques allow space for those of all ages—including older kids and teenagers—to engage in therapy in a comfortable way for them. When I meet with your teenager, I will use play in a way that respects their budding independence and maturity, ensuring that they can have an engaging and effective therapy process without feeling like they are being treated like a child.
My areas of interest include working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma—including those who have been involved in the Child Protection system—behavioral challenges, and life transitions. I am certified in Trauma-Focused CBT and am seeking a certification in Adlerian Play Therapy.
In addition to providing play therapy, I am here to support and guide parents; I am passionate about helping you through whatever challenges you may encounter throughout your child’s play therapy journey with me.
I look forward to working with you and your child! Contact the office or click below to schedule your first appointment.
